Hi Bob:

I just wanted to give you an update on my progress.

Three weeks ago I shot a career best round of 84. There were two key shots that set the tone of the round. The first was the third shot on 15, a par 5. The tee shot goes up to a plateau, the second should be down the hill and then the third about 140 yards to the green. My tee shot was left, but playable. My second shot did not get down the hill, so I was left with about 185-190 yards to the green. I hit my 5 wood well and it went over the left bunker and onto the green. This left me about 50 feet from the back right pin, and I 2 putted for par.

The second key shot was on the 18th par 4. I hit a good drive up the right side which left me again, about 185-190 yards to the green. I again hit 5 wood to the back of the green and two putted for par. It sounds unremarkable in an email but this is one of the holes at Arcola where I have always told myself I can "never" reach it in two.

As I drove home I was running the round through my head. What surprised me was that I didn't feel I did anything remarkable in the round. I just didn't make any big mistakes. I had one double on 16, but the rest just bogey's and pars. If I could play unremarkable and shoot 84, perhaps I could do this consistently, as you said I should do.

I followed the 84 up with a 91 the next week. Sort of my usual score, but maybe with no pars and a few more doubles.

I played again yesterday. We started on the back 9 and I bogeyed 10, had pars on 11,12,13, bogey 14 (left the putt 2 inches short), par 15 (missed the birdie by inches), birdie 16, bogeyed 17 and 18, for a 3 over 39; best nine ever. I followed that with a 43 on the front 9, 82 total. New career best round.

I really haven't had much time to practice, and during the round I knew I wasn't doing what I should be. I'm still not getting the club where it should be in the backswing, especially with the shorter irons (oddly the first thing that we worked on); I can't get these as flat as the longer irons. The driver is getting better but not consistent enough yet. My putting is good but could be better (I 3 putted nine from 12 feet, but it's a tough green). And all the same I shot 82. This is very encouraging, as we haven't even worked with the driver or putter yet.

I'm going to try to practice one night this week after work, and I'll give you a call soon to get together.

The other encouraging thing is that a guy like Heath Slocum, who is basically my size, can beat Tiger!

Thanks for all your help.

Regards,

Mike
Working with Bob regularly over the winter gave my game the push needed to get to a new level. I started my golf season with consistent & solid ball striking. My handicap dropped by 3.5 points.

"The teaching methods are easy to understand, combined with the video analysis you get immediate feedback. I was able to understand how to correct swing faults that have been a struggle for many seasons"

"I found the swing analysis to be very helpful in retaining the lesson. Hopefully my next attempt will be much improved. Thanks for making it easier to understand."

"I continue to be very impressed and happy with Bob and Jenna DeCaro and the Bergen Golf and Fitness Academy. Thanks to his positive style and through his patience and perseverance, Bob has pinpointed and corrected long-standing problems and bad habits that will enable me to finally, after more than 40 years, have a golf swing that will enable me to enjoy each shot on the golf course. Bob is also excellent on the mental side of the game, and has mentored me to trust that I can physically incorporate the adjustments he has made to my swing. Bob has always been accommodating, and nothing seems to be too much trouble for him. His style is so successful that it transcends generations, for Bob also teaches my 4 year old son. I was extremely discouraged when I first came to Bob in July 2008, and through him (and Jenna on the fitness side of things), I have an opportunity to improve and enjoy my time on the driving range and on the course. One cannot attach a price tag to that."

"Week after week, Bob made subtle cumulative changes resulting in a reliable, repeatable golf swing. I am now really enjoying the game"
